Using the Microscope

This week we learned how to use microscopes in preparation for some upcoming activities that we'll be doing.  The students prepared a flat slide and viewed a piece of microfiche--if they prepared the slide correctly and used the microscope correctly they were able to read the words printed on the microfiche; they were all successful!  Later in the week, they learned how to prepare well, or depression, slides and were able to view pond water.  They discovered that there were living things in their water sample--we will explore this idea further next week as we continue to learn about the interdependence of ecosystems.
